Underwriters Laboratories Inc. provides a comprehensive plan to meet the needs set forth by the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, the Maritime Safety Committee, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the U.S. Coast Guard, Lloyd's Registrar and other maritime governing bodies. The U.S. Coast Guard requires that materials tested be under a third-party follow-up service program. UL is capable of conducting smoke, toxicity and surface flammability testing for materials used as interior finishes on international and national shipboards. Classification meets the needs of the U.S. Coast Guard, which is more stringent than other maritime organizations.
