FTIR Gas Analyzer

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. provides a reliable, credible and cost-effective means to identify organic products of combustion.

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. provides a reliable, credible and cost-effective means to identify organic products of combustion. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is an analytical technique that measures the absorption spectra of combustion products. The infrared absorption bands are highly specific for each gas and can identify specific molecular components and structures. The specificity of these bands allows computerized data searches to be performed against reference libraries to identify gases generated in a fire both qualitatively and quantitatively. This modern and accurate test captures a fingerprint of all products of combustion. The portable analyzer can be used with any small-scale and large-scale fire test.

Test Standards

  • SMP 800-C -- Bombardier Inc. Transporation Equipment Group: Material and Process specification; Toxic Gas Generation
  • ISO 5659-2 -- Plastics - Smoke Generation - Part 2: Determination of Optical Density by a Single-Chamber Test
  • NES 713 -- Determination of the Toxicity Index of the Products of Combustion from Small Specimens of Materials

Applications

  • Telecommunications industry
  • U.S. Coast Guard
  • Railroad industry
  • Plastics manufacturers
  • Research and development
