Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers are evaluated and tested to determine their suitability and durability for extinguishing specific types (classes) of fires. The cylinder, valve, gauge, handle, nozzle, siphon tube, label and agent are examined for compliance to requirements. Extinguishers are also subjected to performance tests, such as operation, discharge duration, temperature cycling, vibration, hydrostatic pressure and servicing. Full-scale flammable liquid and wood fire tests are conducted to determine the type (class) and size (rating) of extinguished fires. UL Component Recognized cylinders, agents, elastomers, tamper seals, marking systems (labels) and valves for extinguishers, when used, will streamline your submittal process. Test StandardsUnderwriters Laboratories Inc. Standards for investigating fire extinguishers are based upon the agent used as well as UL 711 for fire testing and rating.
Fire extinguishers are intended to be installed, maintained and tested per NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers.
