Cone Calorimeter Underwriters Laboratories Inc. provides a credible and cost-effective means to predict real-world fire behavior.

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. provides a credible and cost-effective means to predict real-world fire behavior. A reliable bench-scale system, familiar to most as the cone calorimeter, can accurately measure heat and smoke output. This dynamic small-scale testing apparatus can be used in various applications to determine fire characteristics, such as ignition times, weight loss, heat and smoke release rates, heat of combustion and the average specific extinction area.

Test Standards

  • ASTM E1354 -- Standard Test Method for Heat and Visible Smoke Release Rates for Materials and Products Using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter
  • ISO 5660 -- Fire Tests - Reaction to Fire - Part 1: Rate of Heat Release from Building Products (Cone Calorimeter Method)
  • CAN/ULC - S135 -- Standard Method of Test for Determination of Degrees of Combustibility of Building Materials using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter
  • NFPA 271 -- Standard Test Method for Heat and Visible Smoke Release Rates for Materials and Products Using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter
  • ASTM D5485 -- Standard Test Method for Determining the Corrosive Effect of Combustion Products Using the Cone Corrosimeter

Services

  • Determine fire characteristics of various materials for material comparison and ranking
  • Fire modeling
  • Small-scale and large-scale correlation work
