Standard for Safety for Alternative Treatment Technologies for the Disposal of Medical Waste - UL 2334Changes in the Clean Air Act are promoting the development of alternate technologies for disposal of medical waste The waste treatment industry is regulated locally, with many different requirements for the many different technologies Regulators have expressed an interest in a Standard for evaluation of the efficacy and safety of the technologies and some assurance that production equipment matches the evaluated prototypes After consulting with representatives of the State and Territorial Association on Alternate Treatment Technologies (STAATT) which has developed a guidance document for evaluating alternate technologies, Underwriters Laboatories Inc (UL) has initiated the development of a Standard UL, through the Accredited Organization Method of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is seeking recognition of this Standard as an American National Standard. To date, the standards development Technical Committee has met twice (July 21 and October 30, 1999). |
