Overview of the category

UL 508, the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, is one of the basic standards used to evaluate products in this category. Equipment in this category is for use in ordinary locations as defined by National Electric Code, NFPA 70.

The category includes:

  • control and accessory devices for starting, stopping, regulating, controlling, or protecting electric motors;
  • control devices or systems that store or process information and are provided with an output motor control function(s); and
