On June 12, 2017, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) issued Sanitary Standards for Food Detergents.

The standard addresses the use of food detergents for fresh food such as fresh-cut fruits and vegetables and seafoods. The standard specifies that food detergents can only be used for external food cleansing.

The standard also sets that the total substance residues in treated food of both acidified sodium chlorite solutions (ASC) and chlorine dioxide are now limited to one part per million (ppm).
