The Ministry of Environment and Energy of Sweden has proposed M2017/01733/R Ordinance amending the Chemicals Products (Handling, Import and Export Prohibitions) Ordinance (1998:944) that aims to prohibit microplastics in cosmetics.
This draft ordinance prohibits the use of microplastic particles of less than 5 mm in size in any dimension from rinse-off cosmetic products.
The ordinance is open for consultation until September 4, 2017. The proposed date of enforcement is January 1, 2018.
