The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published ISO 11290–1:2017 Microbiology of the food chain — Horizontal method for the detection and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes and of Listeria spp. — Part 1: Detection method, an international standard for the microbiology of the food chain.

ISO 11290–1:2017 specifies a horizontal method for:

  • the detection of L. monocytogenes, and
  • the detection of Listeria spp. (including L. monocytogenes).

The standard applies to the following:

  • products intended for human consumption and for the feeding of animals, and
  • environmental samples in the area of food production and food handling.

The standard was published on May 16, 2017.
