The US Food and Drug Administrations (FDA) has issued Guidance for Industry: Use of the Term “Healthy” in the Labeling of Human Food Products on September 28, 2016.

The guidance document provides assistance in using the term healthy in content claim of food products. Specifically, this guidance applies to food that are:

  • not low in total fat, but have a fat profile makeup of predominantly mono and polyunsaturated fats; or
  • contain at least ten percent of the Daily Value (DV) per reference amount customarily consumed (RACC) of potassium or vitamin D. 

This guidance document is nonbinding and can be used immediately.
