The European Commission (EC) has issued a regulation for health claim made on food for disease risk reduction. The regulation is Commission Regulation (EU) 2017236 of 10 February 2017 refusing to authorize a health claim made on foods and referring to the reduction of disease risk.

The regulation specifies that Anxiofit-1 shall not be included in the Union list of permitted claims as provided for in Article 14(1) of Regulation (EC) No 19242006.

The non-permission is based from the opinion released by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) stating that “Anxiofit-1 has been shown to ameliorate subthreshold and mild anxiety. Subthreshold and mild anxiety are risk factors in the development of anxiety disorders and depression. “

The regulation takes effect beginning on March 23, 2017.
