The Canada Gazette has drafted a screening assessment for acetamide, N-(4-ethoxyphenyl)- (phenacetin) to be used in cosmetics.
The draft screening assessment proposes that acetamide, N-(4-ethoxyphenyl)- (phenacetin) is not harmful as defined by section 64 of the country’s Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (Cepa).
Phenacetin is being used as a laboratory reagent and in some oxidative hair dye preparations as a stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide.
