Standard No. UL 1642
Lithium Batteries, 4th Edition The integral protectors relied upon to comply with the abnormal charging test be “investigated for the purpose” meaning that the component protector comply with the appropriate component standard requirements for that protector. Protectors relied upon to comply with the abnormal charging test for which no component standard exists, such as circuit interrupt devices (CIDs) need not be subject to further review, but will need to be described in detail in the FUS report. February 2, 2009
Standard No. UL 2388
Standard for Safety for Flexible Lighting Products, 1st Edition For Non-extendible ropelights using a detachable power supply cord, the attachment plug will be required to be fused and polarized. For extendible ropelights, the switch or controller shall have a minimum rating that is equivalent to the fuse rating. For ropelights provided with connectors for extension segments, a cord tag shall be provided within 6 inches of the connector with the marking described in Par. 40.5.

The revised requirements included the markings and letter heights, as well as the new marking requirements such as the date code and factory identification.

Standard No. UL 588
Seasonal and Holiday Decorative
Products, 18th Edition
For Outdoor Use Decorative Outfits provided with Parallel-connected lampholders, there shall be a minimum spacing of 1.5 inches (38mm) between live parts and ground. For Outdoor Use Decorative Outfits provided with series-connected lampholders, the lampholders shall not be ground supported.

For seasonal products employing push-in, midget or miniature screw base lamps, the lamp replacement instructions on the cord tag and in the instruction manual have been revised.

Additional requirements for lighting strings intended for use on a patio umbrella and lighting sculptures are described.

There is a new marking for Lighting Strings that employ a construction that allows the string to operate without lamps in place.
