In the past weeks, the death and destruction caused by two unrelated natural disasters — an earthquake in southwest China and a cyclone in Myanmar — have reminded us all of our vulnerability to natural disasters, regardless of where we live in the world.

In support of immediate recovery efforts in China, UL has launched a global fundraising campaign, encouraging more than 6,600 staff members around the world to make personal donations. UL would then match their donations to the China relief effort dollar for dollar.

UL and Lowe’s Home Improvement stores joined hands in an initiative to teach consumers about product safety. Beginning May 3, 2008, UL’s high-tech and entertaining mobile safety exhibit will engage and entertain consumers at 63 Lowe’s locations across the United States.

The mobile UL Safety Tour is an interactive exhibit of high-tech demonstrations and challenges that engage and educate consumers on hidden household and outdoor dangers.

“It is important that consumers understand they have a choice when making a purchase. We encourage consumers to look for the UL Mark as a symbol that the products they are purchasing have gone through the rigorous UL safety certification process,” said Larry Ross, Director of Global Sales and Marketing for UL.

The mobile UL exhibit attracts families to visit and learn more about product safety.
