In pursuit of a better and more convenient life style, mankind continues its journey to create new machines and electronic products. The ever intensifying globalization of industries brings about negative impacts on the environment — mass consumption of natural resources such as fossil fuel and trees, and the surge in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide which is a by-product of the pervasive use of electrical appliances. The phenomena are in global warming and climate changes, accompanying with natural disasters and the extinction of endangered species. Countries from around the world compelled to actively seek remedies to alleviate these impacts.

According to academic research, the main contributor to global warming is the production of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and our excessive use of electrical appliances. A report of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated that atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has increased by about 35% since the Industrial Revolution. These all point to the fact that the impact of mechanization and electrification on the environment should not be taken lightly.
