Standards No. Standard Title & Description Summary of Key Requirement Changes Effective Date
UL 982 Motor-Operated Household Food Preparing Machines, 5th Edition Blenders and centrifugal juicers employing certain constructions are subjected to additional testing and instruction manual requirements. April 6, 2006
Exception of Clause 60.4.1 was revised to clarify when the Running Burnout Test is not required to be conducted.
UL 1203 Explosion-Proof and Dust Ignition-Proof Electrical Equipment for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations, 3rd Edition Revision to clarify that female NPT threads must gauge such that the minimum thread engagement is made upon wrench-tight assembly with the worst-case (1 turn large) male NPT thread. April 30, 2006
Additional requirements to clarify that male NPT threads meet the requirements in the ANSI Standard for NPT threads such that upon assembly, the threads tighten up on the taper before a shoulder on a fitting bottoms out against the wall of an explosionproof enclosure.
The above two changes will permit harmonization with the IEC requirements.
UL 1479 General-Use Snap Switches, 12th Edition Intumescent fill, void or cavity material shall comply with the Expansion Pressure Test and with the Expansion Factor Test May 23, 2006
UL 20 Fire Test of Through Penetration Firestops,
3rd Edition
A key-operated switch shall be constructed so that a 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) diameter rigid steel wire cannot be inserted into the key slot so as to contact live electrical parts. June 1, 2006
The special switch box which forms the floor switch assembly, shall have the necessary volume to accomodate all electrical connections and switch.
Additional installation instruction information is required to be provided with each door switch.
All switches that are marked "OFF" shall completely disconnect all ungrounded conductors in the circuit when in the "OFF" position. Switches that do not disconnect all ungrounded conductors, such as switches that incorporate in-line components (lighted actuators) that pass current when the switch is in the open position, shall not be marked "OFF".
UL 817 Cord Sets and Power-Supply Cords,
11th Edition
A through-cord/pendant switch used in a general-use cord set or a through-cord switch employed in a power-supply cord shall comply with the performance requirements in UL 20, the Standard for General-Use Snap Switches. They shall be rated not less than "6 A, 120 V - 3 A, 250 V." for an AC/DC rated switch, or not less than "10 A, 120 V AC." for an AC rated switch. June 24, 2006
The overcurrent protective device employed in a seasonal-use cord set shall comply with the Temperature Test requirements as stipulated in Clause SB12.2.
